Why Blog World should send me to SXSW
The Blog World / New Media Expo conference is having a contest asking readers to explain why they should be chosen to go to South by Southwest Interactive (aka SXSW Interactive), the criteria for winning being that users should explain, via new media, why they deserve to go.
With SXSW billing itself as Music + Film + Interactive, I figured I'd use that as a framework for explaining why I'm the guy who deserves to go :-) Be sure to surf the links for more info, and check out my videos and demo reel below!
Music
I'm a long running lifestyle / music blogger with my site Grooveeffect (www.grooveeffect.com). On that site we've interviewed a wide array of musical artists, many of whom are current or former SXSW performers.
On top of that, several bands have invited me to shows, or generally inquired as to whether or not I'd make it to SXSW 2009. Up until now I've said I wouldn't be able to make it, but perhaps Blog World would be kind enough to allow me to change my plans!
Film
For starters, I hold a BFA in Motion Pictures & Television from San Francisco's Academy of Art University. With several years of formal film and video training under my belt, I'm well aware of the Austin film scene, and the industry in general.
And I'm not just a fanboy. A project I worked on for Gap Kids has won an American Advertising Federation Gold Addy Award, and another has been licensed by Current.tv.
My work has graced the web and broadcast TV, and spanned personal projects to professional client work. Needless to say, this is one area where I wouldn't just be a happy tag-along, but a worthwhile participant in the SXSW festivities.
Interactive
After moving to San Francisco for art school, within a year I was employed by a tech startup that went on to sell to Macrovision for $35 million. Then I went to the global ad agency JWT as a Search Engine Marketing Manager, eventually moving into a broader digital media strategy role as an Emerging Media Strategist.
Currently I'm employed at Atomic PR, and am a founding member of Random Animal, a digital-focused sister agency launched in 2008
I've worked on interactive projects with clients such as Ford, Lincoln/Mercury, GM, Boeing, Mint.com, LinkedIn, Bebo, Smule, and many other interactive luminaries.
My work has spanned all corners of the interactive world. In 2002, I was working on profitable uses of P2P on platforms such as Kazaa / Fasttrack, Limewire, Gnutella, and the very early days of BitTorrent. I've done search campaigns for blue-chip clients, and social media & digital video campaigns for clients ranging from B2B enterprise to consumer start-ups.

Need more reason why I'd be a valuable add to SXSW? Well, first of all, I was an attendee of the 2008 New Media Expo in Vegas :-) Second, you can check out some of my work below:
